Next month at the Geneva International Auto Show, Mitsubishi will unveil it’s latest version of the Mitsubishi Outlander crossover. Mitsubishi says they will start selling a battery electric version of the CUV by the spring of 2013.
Mitsubishi announced it will add an EV based Outlander to it’s vehicle lineup for during the 2012 fiscal year, and the EV will start sales by March 31, 2013. Mitsubishi didn’t provide any details on the price, range or even the powertrain. Mitsubishi did say the Mitsubishi Outlander Hybrid Electric would be based on Mitsubishi’s existing EV technology. A concept vehicle, dubbed the PX-MiEV was first unveiled in 2009, and it’s rumored the Outlander plug-in will be based on that concept.
Mitsubishi’s battery electric crossover marks Mitsubishi’s continued development in the green auto space – part of an effort to decrease the carbon footprint of the company’s fleet. Mitsubishi started selling the 100% electric Mitsubishi i-Miev last November and has recently announced it will be available nationwide by summer 2012. The Mitsubishi i costs about $6000 less than the Nissan Leaf. The Mitsubishi i-Miev has been named the US’s most efficient vehicle with a rating of 112 MPGe.
