Mercedes Benz has unveiled a battery electric Sprinter can at the International Motor Show in Hanover, Germany. The Vito E-Cell Crewbus, as it would be called in Europe, Daimler AG division is calling the first seven seat mass produced battery electric vehicle. It has a single charge range of 80 miles and a top speed of 55 miles per hour. The Sprinter EV will be able to deliver 94 horsepower with 134 horsepower in spurts. The van’s has 35.2kWh stored in 2 lithium ion battery packs. The Sprinter E-Cell prototype will have a payload capacity of 2600 pounds.
The Sprinter EV will first only be available in Europe in 15 countries including Finland, Spain and the UK for 4-year 50,000 mile leases. If it does well it could end up in North America eventually.
