Ford still claims it’s on track with the Ford Focus Electric

As far as anyone knows, Ford has sold 10 Ford Focus Electrics. 7 of them were sold in December 2011, and 3 of them were sold in January 2012 – no Ford Focus Electrics were sold in February 2012. Then, 3 weeks ago, the retail launch of the Ford Focus Electric, originally scheduled for March, and then pushed to April or May, has now been pushed back to September 2012 (except for New York and California).

The last official release from Ford regarding the matter says that Ford will ramp up production in the first half of 2012 for dealership availability in California, New York and New jersey. By the end of 2012, the Ford Focus Electric is going to be available in the original 19 launch markets across the US.

According to Ford, everything is on track:

“We are on track with the Focus Electric launch. We began by selling a small number of vehicles to a few fleet customers. We are now ramping up retail production to begin selling vehicles to retail customers in New York, New Jersey and California in the first half of this year. We then will expand sales to 16 other markets later this year.”
