Ford began producing the Focus Electric in Saarlouis, Germany. The Focus Electric is the first full electric vehicle to be produced by Ford in Europe, and leads Ford’s line-up of electrified and fuel efficient vehicles.

The Ford Focus Electric is developed as a ‘One Ford’ global vehicle, and has been manufactured in North America since December 2011. The Saarlouis built version of the Focus Electric will reach European customers this August.

“Focus Electric marks the dawn of an exciting new age of full-electric Ford passenger vehicles in Europe, and demonstrates the success of the One Ford strategy in making this sophisticated vehicle available to our European customers,” said Barb Samardzich, the vice president of Product Development for Ford Europe.

Ford invested €16 million to integrate the Focus Electric production into the existing Focus production line at Saarlouis.

The Ford Focus Electric has the same equipment as the North American version converted to European metric specs – a 6.6kW fully integrated onboard charger, and a lithium-ion battery powertrain that produces 143 PS and a achieves a top speed of 136 km/h.
