On November 20th, in Yokohama Japan, Nissan Motor Co. announced the release in Japan of the updated Nissan Leaf, which has received a number of enhancements. That makes this the Nissan Leaf’s second iteration, and it is now available at dealerships across Japan.
Since the Nissan Leaf debuted in December 2010, Nissan has sold more than 43,000 around the world making it the number one selling electric vehicle in the world.
The new version of the Leaf continues to offer excellent performance and driving feel, with smooth acceleration and great handling. The affordable S grade Nissan Leaf has been added for the new model year joining the G and X grade models. Although Nissan told us there is no performance sacrifice to the new S grade, they didn’t tell us why it’s more affordable than the other models.
The revised Nissan Leaf has several new enhancements, including:
- Available genuine leather seats
- BOSE® Energy Efficient Series sound system
- Around View Monitor which assists parking at roadsides
- Driving range of 228km at a full charge (JC08 mode)
- Enhanced regenerative braking performance
- A power-saving heating system.
It’s fairly safe to assume the upgrades will be available in the US once the new 2013 version makes it to this continent.
