Daimler has confirmed that its next-generation Smart ForTwo and Smart ForFour will be available in electric drive models. The next-gen Smart ForTwo is expected some time in 2013 and may make it to production in early 2014. The Electric Drive version will likely come a few months after that. Daimler confirmed that the upcoming Smart ForFour will be available in an all electric version, and will likely be unveiled in 2014 as a 2015 model year.

Daimler went on to say that the ForFour Electric is one part of a larger plan to offer the “most extensive portfolio of electric vehicles in the industry.”

Little else is known about the ForFour, except that it is a longer version of the ForTwo, with 2 additional doors and 2 additional seats. It will be co-developed with Renault and will be rear wheel drive with somewhere around 90hp. Production of the ForFour Electric Drive will be in Slovenia, alongside the Renault Twingo (that it shares its platform with).
