In an interview with USA TODAY, Chevrolet’s marketing boss Tim Mahoney confirmed the Bolt will keep it’s name, even if almost indistinguishable from the Volt name.

After the Washington Automotive Press Association, USA TODAY pulled Mahoney aside to ask him about the upcoming Bolt Electric Vehicle.

Mahony said he approved the Bolt name, saying that “The decision is made. The name won’t be changed.” He added that confusion, he called it ‘synergies’, between the two names can be good as then the Bolt name association with Chevrolet is nearly immediate as most everyone knows the Volt is a Chevrolet.

GM unveiled a Bolt concept at the Detroit Auto Show in January, and announced at the Chicago Auto Show in February that it is approved for production.

The Bolt battery electric vehicle will go 200 miles per charge and cost around $30,000 when it hits the market in the next few years.
