Using an innovative 3 wet paint process that applies all 3 layers in succession before the vehicle goes into the oven, the plant uses less energy and speeds production (usually the vehicle is baked 2 times).

The 250,000  sq. ft. plant is next to Nissan’s vehicle assembly plant. “Nissan is committed to increase energy efficiency as we reduce the environmental impact of manufacturing the highest quality vehicles sold in North America,” said Susan Brennan, Nissan’s vice president of manufacturing in Smyrna. “These efforts align with our global strategies of zero-emission leadership and corporate social responsibility to employees, stakeholders and customers.”

Nissan has committed to reducing energy intensity in its 3 US manufacturing plants by 25% by 2020, and this plant is the first step towards that goal.
