Mitsubishi has announced that the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid SUV will join the redesigned Outlander Sport and the Pike’s Peak i-Miev at the Paris Auto Show later this year.

According to Mitsubishi, the Outlander PHEV is the first plug-in hybrid SUV – and it has all the advantages. Combine the environmental performance of an electric vehicle, the range of a conventional gasoline powered vehicle and the on and off road performance of an SUV.

Mitsubishi says the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid can run in full EV mode, series hybrid mode, or parallel hybrid mode. There was no mention of pricing on the Outlander, but Mitsubishi claims it will hit the Japanese market in early 2013. Nothing was said to hint whether or not the Outlander PHEV will make it to North America.
