Late last week, Mitsubishi shipped the first i Miev electric vehicles to the East Coast of the US. The Mitsubishi i-Miev (dubbed the Mitsubishi i in the US) has been available on the West Coast and in Hawaii since late last year. Mitsubishi is shipping some Mitsubishi i Mievs to Baltimore area dealerships as demonstration vehicles in advance of the nationwide sales this summer.

In January Mitsubishi bumped up the nationwide sales date by about 9 months. Mitsubishi said they received so many advance inquiries about the Mitsubishi i Miev they decided to bump up the roll out schedule. Mitsubishi also reported that 44 Mitsubishi i electric vehicles were sold in February, up from the 36 Mitsubishi i electric vehicles sold in January.

The US EPA named the Mitsubishi i the most fuel efficient vehicle. The 2012 Mitsubishi i is rated at 112 MPGe, which is higher than the Nissan Leaf and the Ford Focus Electric. The Mitsubishi i’s 62 mile range per charge is 11 miles fewer than the Nissan Leaf’s rating of 73, and 14 miles fewer than the Ford Focus Electric’s rating of 76 miles per charge.
