Kia is recalling all Soul (including Soul EVs) vehicles from the 2014 and 2015 model year made prior to January 8, 2015.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the accelerator pedal on affected vehicles can break, which increases the chances of a crash.
A section of the accelerator pedal may bend and fracture. If the vehicle has a bent or broken accelerator pedal, the driver may have difficulty accelerating the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash”, says the NHTSA in its recall summary of the problem.

According to a document on the NHTSA website, on October 23, 2014, “Regular Kia Motor America, Inc. (“KMA”) monitoring identifies accelerator pedal warranty claims which may indicate accelerator pedal fractures. No customer complaints to Consumer Assistance; no accidents or reports of loss of control identified.”
