As of January 15th, the 2014 Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid electric vehicle is now available at select New York and California dealerships.
Rated at 115 MPGe and 46 MPG in hybrid mode, the Accord PHEV is Honda’s most advanced hybrid yet. It’s also the first gasoline powered vehicle to obtain the strict SULEV20 emissions standards that allow it to qualify for single-occupant access to the California carpool lanes.
To charge the 6.7kWh lithium ion battery pack takes less than 3 hours on 120V standard plug, and less than an hour on a 240V system.
The 2014 Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid starts at $39,780 plus a $790 destination charge and other fees. There is also a lease option for the Accord plug-in that costs $429 over 36 months with $2,499 due at signing plus fees.
Currently, Honda has no plans to offer the Accord Plug-in outside of California and New York. “We looked at the states where there was significant recharging infrastructure in place,” spokesman Chris Martin said. “It’s going to be very limited production of this vehicle. Consumers are not going to necessarily be able to drop into every dealer and do a test drive. … [But] a lot of dealers are signed up.”
Honda does plan to offer a standard, plug-free Accord Hybrid nationwide later this year, but no mileage or pricing details have been released yet.
