EV Owner Inforgraphic shows 4 in 5 have household income over $100,000

Produced by the EV project, an organization funded by the DOE, this infographic profiles data from around 8000 plug-in vehicle owners. With data going back to 2009, there is a chance some of the data is no longer valid, since Nissan alone has sold $35,000 LEAFs in the US.

Out of the 8000 plug-in owners, which appear to be mostly or all Chevy Volt and Nissan Leaf owners, 80% are aged 35-65. That’s right inline with the overall automotive industry where the average age of a new car buyer is 51.

Over 30% of the people surveyed have a household income of more than $200,000, which is in-line with other tech and ‘early adopter’ markets. Compared to all new cars purchased in 2012, only 1 in 3 households had incomes of over $100,000.
