Philadelphia has become the latest metropolitan area to be included in the public-private EV project designed to give away Blink home charging stations to electric vehicle owners. Similar deals already exist in Chicago and Atlanta where the owners of electric vehicle like the Nissan Leaf, Mitsubishi i, Chevy Volt, Coda Sedan and now the Ford Focus Electric will also get a station-installation credit of $400 as part of the project.
The EV Project was launched in 2009 with a $100 million dollar grant from the US Department of Energy to ECOtality. The grant had a goal of distributing 14,000 home charging station. In 2010, the DOE added another $15 million to the project.
So far the EV Project has collected electric vehicle driving data from over 33 million miles of electric powered driving.
