GM has released preliminary specifications for the 2014 Cadillac ELR. Following the ELR’s unveiling at the Detroit Auto Show in January, GM has released a comprehensive list of specifications on the extended range electric vehicle.
The 2014 Cadillac ELR will enter production in late 2013, and will be available in early 2014. It is a front wheel drive, 2 door coupe extended range electric vehicle that will be manufactured at the Detroit-Hammtramck Assembly plant in Michigan. The battery pack will be manufactured in Brownstown Township, Michigan.
Built on a unibody structure with front and rear crumple zones, the hood is aluminum and the bumper fascias are thermal plastic olefin to reduce weight.
The lithium-ion battery pack weighs 435 pounds and is comprised of 288 prismatic cells. It has a capacity of 16.5kWh, which gives the ELR an electric range of 35 miles. The battery pack comes with an 8 year, 100,000 mile warranty. Charging time for the battery pack will be around 4.5 hours at 240V, and 12 hours at 110V.
The onboard electric generator in the Cadillac ELR is a 1.4l DOHC inline 4 cylinder engine that produces 84 horsepower. Coupled with the 154 horsepower, the total system power in the ELR is rated at 207 horsepower.
The top speed of the ELR is 100 MPH. With an all electric range of 35 miles, the combined range is more than 300 miles.
The production model is set to come with 20 inch aluminum wheels, and has 9 cubic feet of cargo space.
Has GM revelead the Cadillac ELR true weight?
According to Cadillac’s preliminary specifications, the ELR weighs 4070 pounds.
Is the Cadillac ELR going to implement this new 3 cylinder engine desighn?
There’s a good possibility, but the 3 cylinder might not be in the 2014 Cadillac ELR, maybe later in 2015 or 2016.
Will GM sell/lease charging stations for home installation?

Although they haven’t said yet, GM will likely have a recommended charging station for the vehicle. It’s unlikely GM themselves will deal will selling/leasing it.
What are the specfice requirements for the charging stations indoors? Will a vent system be required?
No venting system is required, if you’re talking about a home-style EVSE mounted in your garage?
