Cadillac ELR performance boosted compared to Volt

At the Detroit Auto Show, the Cadillac ELR received much of the buzz and was awarded the Eyes on Design award as Best Production Vehicle. The original concept was unveiled in 2009 and dubbed the Converj – that means it’s been a near 4 year process to get to this point.

Tim Kozub is the exterior design manager at Cacillac and he recently said that the design team used the Converj as a sketch to create the ELR. He thinks the proportion was everything in the design. From the car being low and wide to the 20 inch wheels way out near the corners, it all helps give the ELR its striking appearance. “It just plants itself so beautifully,” he said.

Also noteworthy is finally some confirmation that the Cadillac ELR performance will be amped up compared to the Volt because its a Cadillac. “Everybody wants this hot car, this hot image coupe, to sit in their driveway, to step out of it at a restaurant,” he says in the video below.

  1. What is the Hybrid consumer benefiting from a $50,000 dollar car from an economical standpoint.

  2. ELR forums have yet to reveil the true facts of a luxury hybrid such as the Cadillac ELR. Does this introduction make financial sense, even in an era of high gas prices?

    • If gas prices get high enough it will make financial sense. However, the Cadillac ELR it is still better on fuel/wallet than a comparable luxury sports car.

      • You are correct, the Cadillac ELR is simply a volt with a tuxedo. However is the Cadillac ELR going to attract eco friendly consumers that are truly just trying to get from point A to B more efficiently regardless of the luxury?

        • That’s the age old question. People trying to save money on gas aren’t interested in hybrids, and people who want the status of being green want to drive something that is recognizable as green (like a Prius). There is no luxury green car aside from the Fisker Karma and Tesla Model S (which seems to have no troubles selling).
