BMW i8 PHEV Spyder

Earlier this week at the Auto China 2012 show in Beijing, BMW took it’s i8 Spyder to the stage. Other than a great looking car, the only new information gleaned from the press releases was that the BMW i8 PHEV Spyder Concept has an eDrive badge on the rear.

Apparently eDrive is what BMW is calling the new drive technology it will be using for all it’s electric and plug-in hybrid cars from the BMW i range of models including the BMW i3.

Parts of the press release sound a little like an automated translation, but here are the interesting bits:

“BMW eDrive comprises the components of the electric drivetrain: the electric motor deployed in house by BMW, theĀ  lithium-ion battery, and finally the intelligent motor management system.”

“The future will see BMW eDrive technology empowering all electric and plug-in vehicles from BMW i.”
