BMW has recently confirmed that their first front-wheel-drive crossover, the Active Tourer, will go on sale in the United States in early 2015. When it does enter production, it will likely become the 1-Series GT.
According to Ian Robertson, BMW AG’s board member for sales and marketing, was the one to announce the news.
The Active Tourer will share a platform with the next generation Mini Cooper, and will be offered in FWD and AWD versions.
The plug-in hybrid Active Tourer is expected to use a 1.5 liter three cylinder turbocharged engine borrowed from the BMW i8. With an estimated output of 190hp, 0-60 mph times could be under 8 seconds. The plug-in hybrid version of the 1-Series GT will likely be the same as the one in the upcoming plug-in hybrid Mini Cooper.
