Ford Transit Connect Electric

On the heels of an announcement that Azure Dynamics was filing for bankruptcy protection, they’ve now announced that production of the Ford Transit Connect Electric has been halted until the restructuring is completed. According to Mike Elwood from Azure, they are currently working on a service plan for Transit Connect Electrics and other Azure Dynamics vehicles out in the marketplace. Aside from that, the green vehicle program will continue relative to restructuring.

Wes Sherwood from Ford assured the media that Azure’s bankruptcy filing does not affect Ford’s overall electric vehicle strategy. “Our Ford electric vehicle product plans remain on track, as part of our commitment to provide customers with the power of choice for fuel economy solutions across our lineup.” It would seem strange that Azure’s issues would somehow affect the production of the Ford Focus Electric, but it’s still reassuring to hear it from someone from Ford.

No word yet on if Ford will try and produce a Transit Connect Electric on their own should Azure disappear.
