We’ve known for a while that the A3 E-tron was headed to North America, but until now, Audi was vague at best about a timeline.

Now, Audi has said the A3 E-tron will launch in the US in early 2015. However, the US isn’t first. Audi says the A3 E-tron will launch in Europe in the Spring of 2014.

The plug-in hybrid A3 will be the last version of the revised A3 to arrive, following the A3 sedan, the A3 carbiolet, the A3 TDI diesel, and the S3 high-performance sedan.

The A3 sedan plays a pivotal role in the soon to be expanding Audi A3 family. It will be joined later in 2014 by the recently announced Audi A3 Cabriolet, A3 TDI clean diesel, the high-performance S3 sedan and in early 2015, the A3 Sportback e-tron® gasoline electric hybrid (PHEV).

As for price, the standard 2015 Audi A3 will have an MSRP of $29,900, and the Audi A3 Sportback E-tron is priced at 37,000 euros in Germany which converts to a little over $50,000 USD.

Here are the Audi A3 E-tron specs we know:

  • top speed is 137.94 mph
  • 31 miles of electric range
  • total driving range of 584 miles
  • battery capacity is 8.8 kWh
  • curb weight of 3,483 lbs
