2013 Ford Fusion Energi approved for HOV access in California

Fusion Energi in White, Black and Blue

The Ford Fusion Energi joins the Focus Electric and the C-max Energi as HOV-qualified vehicles in the State of California. In order to qualify for single occupant access to HOV lanes, vehicles need to be classified by the California Air Resource Board as super ultra0low emissions and be certified by the EPA to offer at least 45 mpg on the highway.

The only other automaker with 3 vehicles that meet those qualifications is Toyota – their Rav4 EV, Scion iQ EV and Prius Plug-in Hybrid all make the grade. However, it coudld be argued that the Scion iQ EV shouldn’t count since it is such a low production vehicle, where as all of Ford’s 3 vehicles are widely available.

C.J. O’Donnell, the group marketing manager for Ford’s Electrification says that having 3 vehicles approved for California HOV access really “underscores our success in truly offering power of choice, especially when it comes to electric and hybrid powertrains.

In addition to the $3750 federal tax credit, buyers of the Ford Fusion Energi in California are also eligible for a $1,500 tax rebate from the state of California.
