Volkswagen XL1 formally introduced

The Volkswagen XL1 is a poster child for lightweight and low drag design. The carbon fiber bodied, 1700 lb 2 seater vehicle claims 261 miles per gallon. That makes it the world’s most fuel efficient production vehicle – when it makes it to production.

As Volkswagen stated in a previous press release, the XL1 will be built using handcrafting production methods.

No pricing information has been mentioned yet, but there are estimates floating around that it will be into the 6 figures.

With 47 horsepower, a 2 cylinder diesel engine, and a 27 horsepower electric motor, the XL1 can go from 0-62 mph in 12.7 seconds and has a top speed of 100 mph.

With the unveiling of the XL1 in Geneva, no new information was provided. There was no mention of when the XL1 will be built or when buyers will be able to place orders.
