If you think this sounds a lot like Mitsubishi’s announcement yesterday, you’re right. Volkswagen is planning to launch the electric Golf in Europe sometime in 2014, but the automaker has now confirmed it won’t hit US shores until 2015.
Executive vice president for Volkswagen’s US division told the New York Times that “We want to be the leader in the global context, but other manufacturers have gotten a little ahead of the curve.”
Not sure what Marc Trahan meant about being the leader in a global context, but the truth is that VW is behind – 2015 is a long ways away and unless they add some improvements to the e-Golf’s range, they’ll have trouble selling the electric vehicle in North America.
