VIA Motors EREV van passes crash test; Pre-orders for VIA EREV truck now open

VIA Motors has announced they are finished crash testing the extended range cargo van.

VIA Motors president, Alain Perriton, said “We were pleased with the results of the crash testing of our electric cargo van. The engineering work done to integrate the VIA’s electric technology has been exceptional and the vehicles have exceeded our expectations in all tests that were performed.” He went on to say that VIA Motors is now moving on to complete certification and begin mass production, with hopes of going on sale this fall.

In a recent social media post, VIA said the cargo vans will “soon be rolling in droves in Southern California.”

Due to a significant change in the GM truck platform, the VTRUX, which VIA Motors intended to bring to market first, will be available some time in 2014. The change in the pickup chassis has “forced a major design update for the pickup product VIA had intended to bring to market first.” Mark Brudge, vice president of sales and business development, has been quoted as saying the design change “put us back about 12 months.”
