Ryugo Nakao, Mitsubishi Motors head of product and strategy development says “The Pajero is our flagship.” The Pajero is a large SUV with worldwide recognition, and its overdue for a redesign. Since 2006, the Pajero hasn’t been available in North America, but the redesigned 2015 Pajero may makes its re-entry.

At the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, Nakao said the Outlander PHEV’s plug-in hybrid system could be featured in the redesigned Pajero. There is no timeline set for the next generation Pajero, but 2015 seems likely as Nakao said “The current Pajero must go on for at least two to three more years.”

Officially, Mitsubishi is saying that plug-in hyrbid is an option it will consider for the Pajero, but with the instant success of the Outlander PHEV in Japan they will likely consider it quite seriously.

A plug-in hybrid version of the Pajero would help cut consumption and emissions for the large SUV, and would fill a need for a more economical large SUV in the US.

  1. If and when the Mitsubishi Pajero is introducted to the United States in 2015. Will there be an uprgrade in its development and platform of the PHEV plug in Hybrid system, seeing as it will be a much heavier chasis? Will there be a varieted Plugin hybrid sport package system that will allow more versitility?

The Pajero PHEV Hybrid will it com with optional Pano roof?

    • The Pajero PHEV isn’t even a sure thing, it was merely mentioned as a possibility. We’re betting that given the response to the Outlander PHEV, Mitsubishi will seriously consider a Pajero PHEV.

      • Seeing as Mitsubishi does not have a a current flaghip large 7 passenger SUV the Outlander PHEV Plugin maybe there answer. Moving forward well see.
