Mitsubishi unveils concept CA-MiEV at Geneva Motor Show

The newest electric vehicle concept by Mitsubishi is the CA-MiEV electric vehicle. For years the i-MiEV has been a regular attendee at Mitsubishi’s auto show booths around the world, and today Mitsubishi has finally unveiled a new version of the i-MiEV electric vehicle.

The official range of the current Mitsubishi i-Miev (known as the Mitsubishi i in the US) is 62 miles. The concept CA-MiEV is said to go 186 miles with a full charge in its 28 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a lightweight 80kW motor. While most other electric vehicles of similar size currently on the market have a range of 80-100 miles, 186 miles is quite impressive.

Due to the increased range, Mitsubishi is calling the CA-MiEV a suburban electric vehicle, with enough range for “about one week of driving for an average European driver.” Mitsubishi hints that the flat battery pack could leave room for a range extender, but hints was all there was in regards to that.

Mitsubishi went on to say the CA-MiEV is not planned for production, but is instead a showcase for the various MiEV technologies that Mitsubishi intends to use in the mid to long-term across its range of vehicles.
