After a year hiatus, no 2013 model year was ever sold in North America, the Mitsubishi i-MiEV will return to the US in late Spring 2014!

Last we heard from Mitsubishi was back in July, when Sophia Ku, the account executive forMitsubishi US assured us that the i-MiEV was not discontinued in the US and that a future model was in the works – Mitsubishi was in the midst of determining a release date for it.

As for what will change for the 2014 model year, we don’t know much. In Canada, a 2013 model year was available, and it received a few upgrades over the 2012 i-MiEV such as heated seats and seatbacks, and 2 120-volt charging cables that reduced the charge time to 22 hours at 8 amps, and 14 hours at 12 amps. And then just last week, Mitsubishi Japan announced they were lowering the price on the i-MiEV in Japan by up to $9000US equivalent.

There is a good chance the US model will receive a price drop, and that it will get the same upgrades the Canadian 2013 i-MiEV received since Canada and the US are the only countries that receive the wider and longer i-MiEV.

Mitsubishi has said the 2014 Mitsubishi i-MiEV will not be available in Rasberry, but will have black, white and silver color options.

  1. Sure, many “2014” model cars have been on lots for nearly half a year now, but Mitsu continues their clueless marketing with this move by allowing iMiEV inventory to zero out and then announcing that the car will return to lots with minimal changes and an unknown price sometime in the spring? This should be the most affordable EV on the market with quick charge, plus a sport option with at least the 60kw/195 Nm power from the Outlander PHEV rear axle….
