Mitsubishi confirms Outlander PHEV for USA in Spring 2016

In an Automotive News article outlining a stalled sedan deal between Nissan and Mitsubishi was a small note about the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid.

The article mentions that Mitsubishi dealers in the US will being receiving a wave of fresh products this year starting with the redesigned Outlander in July. Most interesting to us, is the mention of the “plug-in hybrid Outlander in the second quarter of 2016.”

InsideEVs was quick to contact Mitsubishi North America, and they confirmed the Outlander PHEV will go on sale in the USA in the Spring of 2016.

Initially set to go on sale in North America in late 2015, the Outlander was delayed after having to add a battery reporting module to make it compliant as a new plug-in vehicle under California law.

Later this year, other plug-in hybrid SUVs like the BMW x5 eDrive and the Volvo xc90 PHEV are slated to make it to the North American market. Pricing will determine if Mitsubishi can have the sales success it has enjoyed in Europe and Japan will transfer over to North America as other automakers have scrambled to release larger plug-in vehicles
