Hyundai Sonata Plug-in Hybrid coming later this year?

Late in December, Hyundai slipped a press release out announcing they would be launching an all-new Sonata Hybrid at the North American International Auto Show this month. Hidden deep within the announcement is the details that the Sonata Hybrid will also get a plug-in version!

No details are available yet, but Hyundai says the new Sonata will be available later this year, so we expect the Sonata PHEV won’t show up until sometime in 2016.

With the addition of the Plug-in Hybrid version, Hyundai Motor will offer a complete range of eco-friendly models, further boosting the model’s popularity. While the all-new Sonata Hybrid will make its North American debut at the 2015 North American International Auto Show, detailed information of the Plug-in Hybrid version will be also released at the show in Detroit, U.S.

Another nugget from the press release, Hyundai will be bringing a Prius competitor to market: “The company also plans to introduce its first dedicated Hybrid model in the second half [this] year.”
