Hyundai Elantra Electric concept at the 2012 Auto Show in Detroit

Perhaps not wanting to be left out, Hyundai shows a concept of an electric vehicle at the 2012 Detroit auto show. The Hyundai Elantra Electric looks just like the gasoline Elantra except for some electric stickers and unique badges. Hyundai is calling it a concept, but it goes to show that automakers are giving more weight to electric vehicles weight all the time.

If the Hyundai Elantra Electric didn’t have elaborate graphics on it, it would blend right in with its gas only counterpart. The Hyundai Elantra Electric also has different wheels, extra batches, and unique electric vehicle themed badge on the grill.

Underneath the standard Elantra shell, the Hyundai Elantra Electric has a 100% electric drivetrain. The Hyundai Elantra Electric has an 80 kilowatt motor powered by 27KwH lithium-polymer battereis. Hyundai claims the Elantra Electric has a driving range of 124 miles. The 6.6Kw onboard charger recharges the battery pack in 5 hours with a 220volt charger.
