Honda needs to waste no time in putting the Sports EV into production

What is it? The Honda Sports EV Concept builds on the momentum it started when the Urban EV Concept debuted in Frankfurt earlier this year. The all-electric sports car shares the Urban EV’s platform and much of its hardware. The look is one of an emboldened S2000 — a tight bustled tail with a long “shaker”-like hood out front.
Why does it matter? Other than saying that the Sport EV “combines EV performance and AI (artificial intelligence) inside a compact body with the aim to realize the joy of driving the user can feel with a sense of unity with the car.” Nothing was said about the powertrain, although a conversation did reveal the driving distance would be in the 250-kilometre range. The front grille is used to convey information; the display car said “Hello” and then went on to show the battery was at 80% and charging. Why anyone other than the owner needs to know that is up for debate.

When is it coming? There is an electric car heading to China and the production version of the Urban EV will hit Europe in 2019. Any talk of North America was conspicuous by its absence.
Should you buy it? The electric age is upon us. Shifting the breed from the boring runabout that defines the current EV segment, to something to relish, is a big step in the right direction.
