I was going to say the same thing.

There will be a hole in the EV market for a low-cost EV. Maybe it's a matter of tax credits, and using them on Volt/Bolt vehicle that is more profitable than the Spark EV was/is

What matters is the long term cost for scalable manufacturing (versus the short term subsidized cost). Hydrogen production is inefficient relative to electricity generation. If you are doing solar electrolysis, one step shorter is just to generate solar for EVs. I can see hydrogen making great sense...
