First 2012 Coda Sedan rolls off production line

First production Coda Sedan

On March the first fully assembled Coda Sedan to be sold to consumers drove off of the final assembly line in Benicia, California. The occassion kicked off the final assembly of Coda’s first all electric five passenger sedans that will be sold in California.

Mac Heller, executive chairman of Coda Holdings said ‘This is an incredibly exciting day for the Coda family and EV community.’ Coda has been dedicated to designing an electric car that provides good torque, range, and value, and Mac says ‘This car symbolizes our commitment to accelerating the adoption of EVs.’

The Coda Sedan is being assembled at a facility approximately 30 miles from San Francisco where the vehicle’s central powertrain unit and other electrical components are installed. The cars are also put through a robust vehicle safety and quality inspection at the facility. The inital assembly of the glider chassis and battery packs are done in China – the research, design, marketing and sales are conducted at Coda Automotive’s global headquarters in Los Angeles.

The 2012 Coda Sedan will soon be available through dealerships throughout California. There are only a few currently, but as production increases, additional dealerships in the state and beyond California will be announced.

The new 2012 Coda Sedan is the first all-electric 5 passenger sedan with full rear seating and trunk space (the Nissan Leaf is a hatchback). The Coda Sedan is also rated as having the best in class driving range. With it’s 31kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the Coda Sedan can travel 88 miles per charge, and according to Coda, could go as far as 125 miles if driven just right. The electric vehicle is covered by an industry leading 10 year, 100,000 mile battery warranty, and with the 6.6kW onboard charger, it can be fully charged in about 6 hours.
