Coda Sedan electric vehicle price dropped to $25,000 at some dealerships

Coda Silicon Valley in Santa Clara, CA, has been offering the Coda Electric Vehicle for the price of $24995, down from the Coda MSRP of $38,145 according to Green Car Reports.

The discount hints that dealerships are having a hard time selling the EV even in electric vehicle hot spots like the San Francisco Bay Area. Since LA based Coda Automotive never releases sales numbers, it’s hard to know how many are being sold. If traffic on the Coda Sedan Forum is any indication, there is very little interest.

Coda Automotive has experienced some difficulties. There have been multiple rounds of layoffs in recent months, and back in December 2012, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the Coda Sedan a 2-star front impact rating. Inside Line also gave a poor rating on the Coda’s overall driving experience.

The Coda Sedan did look promising when it was first released – it received an 88 mile range rating by the EPA which put it ahead of the Nissan Leaf and Mitsubishi i-Miev that were also available at that time.

  1. Wow that’s one heck of a discount!!

With the $7,500 federal credit, that makes it a $18,000 vehicle, in some states after credits that works out to $15,000. It should sell well at that price.
