BMW expects half of i3 sales to be Rex equipped

In a recent interview with Ward’s Auto, CEO of BMW North America Ludwig Willisch said that BMW expects over half of i3 buyers to opt for the range extender when purchasing or leasing the BMW i3. What makes this interesting is that 5 months ago, Willisch predicted 80% of buyers would choose the range extended i3 Rex option. Aside from the optional Rex, Willisch said BMW doesn’t expect US buyers to choose many other options on the vehicle, because even the base i3 is ‘pretty fully equipped.’

Willisch notes that BMW dealers “are really excited about the introduction of the i3, and they already want more” i3’s than BMW had already promised to supply.
