In the past, Audi has officially said the R8 E-tron development program is on hold. However, new images have surfaced of the electric sports car undergoing winter testing in Europe, and the car has been spotted running tests in Spain as well. Both sightings support that the R8 E-tron may be back under development, ultimately moving towards production.

Some speculate that the photos of the R8 E-tron testing may just be to steal some thunder from BMW and their i8 plug-in hybrid sports car that is nearing development.

If the Audi R8 E-tron ever does make it to production, chances are the volume will be very low.
