6% of US utility companies offer EV charging incentives

Of all the utility companies in the United States, just 22 of them, which operate in 11 states total, offer special rates for EV charging. Northeast Group LLC did a recent study of the special rates – tariffs – and found they come in the form of pre-set monthly rates or special off-peak rates for EV owners who charge their vehicles overnight. When the tariffs are in place, some electric vehicle owners could reduce their annual charging fees by as much as half.

The most friendly states when it comes to utilities offering special EV charging rates? Hawaii, Michigan and Nevada are the best, while Arizona, California, Indiana and Virginia are among the states where utilities have added special EV tariffs during the past year.
